ABOUT US

About Us Wini at Nusa Penida

Hi! It’s Wini.

If you know me, you’ve known that I’ve wanted to quit my job & travel the world for YEARS. The idea was born after I graduated from Indiana University (go Hoosiers!) and started working a corporate job in Denver. I decided that the monotony of corporate life wasn’t for me, and started to plan & save. I finally reached my savings goal and bought a one way ticket to Costa Rica in 2020! Unfortunately, COVID had other plans for me & by a stroke of good luck and weird timing, I ended up in Taiwan teaching English for the entirety of the COVID years (almost 3 years!) before packing my bag again to embark on our journey.

I’m so excited to finally be on the road, and sharing our journey!

About Us Sarah (Saz) in the Cameron Highlands

Hi! I’m Sarah.

I’m always down for a new adventure, which is why I got my TEFL certification on a whim and moved halfway across the world, to Taiwan, without speaking the language, having a job, or knowing anybody. I just knew that I wanted something different than I had back in Canada. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I’ve made lifelong friendships, experienced a brand new culture, and met somebody just as wild and adventurous as me.

After two years of planning and saving, as well as waiting for COVID restrictions to lift, we finally left our cozy life in Taiwan, and made the leap to start our year-ish long journey around the world.

OUR STORY

Wini and Sarah (Saz) About Us Page Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida

In 2020, Wini began what she thought would be a year of travelling and adventure, but those plans went completely sideways. Nearly getting stranded in Panama due to COVID border closings, she hopped on a flight to Taiwan to wait out the storm at her parent’s apartment. A couple short weeks in Taiwan before getting back to exploring the world didn’t sound so daunting.

But as stories that start with 2020 go, “a couple short weeks” turned into over 3 years in place. During which she made friends and found work to keep busy, and made a life in the country she hadn’t lived in since childhood.

Sarah was already living and working as an English teacher in Taiwan. She had moved there mere months before anyone had heard about a weird new virus hitting the scene. However, her life plans were relatively unhampered, as Taiwan was almost entirely COVID-free through the pandemic. She was able to enjoy a full social life, while exploring Taiwan’s incredible nature and culture.

The foreigner community being as small as it is in Kaohsiung, the friends we made overlapped. We met at a mutual friend’s brunch, and then at various social events after, and it was quickly evident we were drawn to each other. As strange as the circumstances were that brought us together, we’re so glad they did.

It’s been a wild, unexpected journey, but we are so excited to be on it together.
