Dubrovnik has absolutely exploded in popularity in the recent years, and that means prices have gone up to match. Visiting can be quite challenging on a budget, but here are 5 completely free things to do while in King’s Landing Dubrovnik!
1. GET LOST IN THE ALLEYS OF OLD TOWN
Established in the 7th century, Old Town Dubrovnik has so much history! Stroll along Stradun, the main street. It’s packed with shops, cafes, and historic spots. Get lost in the narrow alleys and find hidden courtyards with beautiful ocean views!
2. CHECK OUT DUBROVNIK CATHEDRAL
Dubrovnik Cathedral is known for it’s beautiful Baroque style architecture and holds so much history. Entry is free, and it’s open from 9 am to 5 pm (excluding Mass times).
3. COOL DOWN WITH FREE WATER AT ONOFRIO’S FOUNTAIN
Right near the entrance of Old Town, you’ll find an ornately carved fountain called Onofrio’s fountain. One of Dubrovnik’s most famous landmarks, this circular fountain was built in 1438 as part of a water-supply system that involved bringing water from a spring 12km away. It’s still standing and in use today! You can take a break from the hot sun and refill your water bottles with free ice cold water.
4. FIND A SECRET SWIMMING HOLE
Dubrovnik has some of the most stunning waters we’ve ever seen! We found an secret path down to a swimming hole here, and spent hours floating in the beautiful blue waters! Bring your snorkel and check out the local marine life!
5. RELAX AT THE BEACH
Dubrovnik has plenty of beautiful beaches to choose from, each catering to a slightly different crowd! Here are some of the most popular beaches in the city:
Banje Beach: Located just east of Old Town Dubrovnik, Banje Beach is definitely a Dubrovnik beach favourite! With its pebbly shore and clear blue waters, it provides a fantastic view of the city walls. Banje Beach also features beach clubs for those looking to enjoy a vibrant beach atmosphere. However, it can get really crowded during high season.
Sveti Jakov Beach: For a more secluded and peaceful escape, head to Sveti Jakov Beach. It is a bit further from the city centre, but this beach is surrounded by lush greenery and offers a more tranquil setting.
Dance Beach: Dance Beach (aka Pleso Beach) is a lively spot known for its beach parties and events. It has a mix of pebbles and concrete areas, and the vibrant atmosphere makes it popular among younger crowds.
Betina Cave Beach: For anybody wanting a more adventurous beach experience, Betina Cave Beach is a hidden gem accessible by boat or a scenic hike. It’s completely surrounded by cliffs, so it feels very private and is perfect for a relaxing day.
Copacabana Beach: Not to be confused with the famous party beach in Rio de Janeiro, Dubrovnik’s Copacabana Beach is a family-friendly destination. It features a mix of pebbles and concrete areas, water sports facilities, and beachside cafes.
