HOW TO GET TO THE BEST SNORKELLING IN PANGLAO

From Alona Beach, you can rent a motorbike or flag down a tricycle to take you to the “Molave Cliff Dive Resort”. It’s about a 15-20 minute drive from Alona Beach.

PRICE

You will need to pay an entrance and guide fee of 200 PHP/person ($3.60 USD).

Unfortunately, you are unable to snorkel the reef alone and must hire a guide so there is a time limit. However, it is well worth the fee, as the coral and marine life in the area is absolutely amazing.

At the dive resort, you are able to rent a snorkel, fins, and a life jacket if needed.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The reef is absolutely teeming with marine life, including colorful fish, sea turtles, and sea snakes. There is a big drop-off around 20 meters offshore, and you can free-dive deeper down to see the beautiful and vibrant corals. Scuba diving is also available at Napaling Reef.

One of the best things about Napaling Reef is that it is well-preserved. The local government and the community are actively trying to regrow the coral and preserve the marine sanctuary, especially after the devastating effects of Super Typhoon Odette. The local government is working to protect the reef from pollution and overfishing. You can see the results of their efforts in the healthy and diverse marine life that thrives in the area.

We were able to stay out and snorkel with our guide for 90 minutes, which was incredible. We were even lucky enough to see a sea turtle & sea snake!

Afterward, we asked to hang out at the Molave Cliff Dive resort to watch the sunset. The views are absolutely beautiful. You used to be able to cliff jump off the built-in diving board they have, but this stopped after the typhoon because they are regrowing the coral below and don’t want that area disturbed. Nonetheless, we were able to relax on the diving board and enjoy our dinner while watching an absolutely gorgeous sunset.

Napaling Reef is a must-visit destination for those who love underwater nature. It is a place where you can immerse yourself in the beauty beneath the sea and appreciate the importance of preserving our natural resources. Make sure to include it in your travel plans when you visit the Philippines!
