Paris is renowned for its iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame Cathedral. However, there is also so much charm and beauty to be seen in the smaller side streets and neighbourhoods. Paris is an extremely walkable city, so we decided to explore Paris entirely on foot.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, our walking guide to Paris will help you to experience and hit all the hotspots, while also experiencing the beauty of the neighbourhoods.
DAY 1
On your first day in Paris, embark on a walking adventure that covers some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, vibrant neighborhoods, and cultural hotspots. This itinerary takes you through the Louvre, Galeries Lafayette, Sacré-Cœur, the Royal Palace, and the Latin Quarter.
Louvre Museum
Start your day at the Louvre Museum, one of the world’s largest and most famous art museums. If you want to go inside, try to book your tickets in advance as the line can be really long. Take your time exploring its vast collection, including masterpieces like the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Winged Victory of Samothrace. Marvel at the stunning architecture of the Louvre Pyramid, and don’t miss the chance to stroll through the picturesque Tuileries Garden adjacent to the museum. If you aren’t able to get tickets, then just enjoy the beautiful architecture and magnificent ambiance the outdoors has to offer. Even without going in, there is so much to see!
Galeries Lafayette:
From the Louvre, make your way to Galeries Lafayette, a prestigious department store known for its luxury brands and elegant shopping experience. It is approximately a 20 minute walk. At Galeries Lafayette, you can browse the stores and admire the stunning architecture, particularly the Art Nouveau dome.
Saving the best for last, visit the rooftop viewpoint for a free panoramic view of the city. You’ll be able to see the Eiffel Tower, Paris Opera House, and Sacre Coeur, as well as countless other sights.

Sacré-Cœur and Montmartre:
After taking in the view, head to the Montmartre district to visit the majestic Sacré-Cœur Basilica. This approx. 30 minute walk will take you through the charming streets of Montmartre, known for its bohemian atmosphere and artistic history. Explore the lively Place du Tertre, where local artists showcase their talents. You can visit the I Love You wall, and grab a coffee or ice cream from one of the many shops lining the cobblestone roads.
Climb up the steps to the Sacré-Cœur for a breathtaking view of Paris from the vista. You can also climb the dome of Sacré-Cœur for 6 euros. As you ascend, you’ll see Paris spread out before you, from famous landmarks to the winding streets below.

Royal Palace (Palais Royal):
Walk southward to the Royal Palace, also known as the Palais Royal. This historic palace features beautiful gardens, elegant arcades, and the iconic striped columns known as Les Deux Plateaux by artist Daniel Buren. Take a leisurely stroll through the peaceful gardens and admire the art installations.
Latin Quarter
Finally, head to the Latin Quarter, a lively neighborhood known for its lively and cheerful atmosphere. Explore the narrow streets lined with bookstores, cafes, and bustling market stalls. Stop and enjoy an apéro at one of the many bars and restaurants!
You’ll easily hit over 30,000 steps following this itinerary, but you’ll be able to see many of Paris’ most iconic landmarks, while also exploring the lesser known side streets.
DAY 2
After a restful night, get ready to embark on day 2 of your Parisian walking adventure. This itinerary takes you to other amazing landmarks, such as the Seine River, the Ile de la Cite, and the iconic Notre Dame.
Seine River
Start your day by strolling along the Seine River. Enjoy the scenic views and the tranquil atmosphere as you walk along the riverbanks. Marvel at the magnificent bridges, the elegant architecture of the surrounding buildings, and the vibrant life along the water.
Île de la Cité
Walk along the Seine to Île de la Cité, an island in the Seine that holds significant historical and cultural importance. Explore the heart of the island, wandering through its narrow streets and taking in the charming atmosphere. Admire the flower market at Place Louis Lépine and the lovely Square du Vert-Galant park, located at the tip of the island.
Notre-Dame Cathedral
Continue your walk to Notre-Dame Cathedral, an iconic Gothic masterpiece. It is currently still under construction after the devastating fire in 2019, but there is still an amazing view of the exterior architecture!
Sainte-Chapelle
Located nearby, don’t miss the opportunity to visit Sainte-Chapelle, a gem of Gothic architecture renowned for its exquisite stained glass windows. Admire the vibrant colors and intricate scenes depicted in the glass, creating a breathtaking visual experience.
Musée d’Orsay
End your day by visiting the Musée d’Orsay, located on the Left Bank of the Seine. Housed in a former railway station, this museum showcases an extensive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, including works by Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, and Degas. Take your time to appreciate the masterpieces and the stunning architecture of the building.
Throughout your walk, take breaks at cafes or outdoor spots along the Seine to enjoy the scenery and indulge in some French cuisine or a cup of coffee. Take in the beauty and history of Paris as you explore its iconic landmarks and picturesque river.
DAY 3
On your third day in Paris, experience the allure of the Eiffel Tower, the grandeur of the Arc de Triomphe, and the elegance of the Champs-Élysées.
Eiffel Tower at Sunrise
Start your day early by heading to the Eiffel Tower to witness a magical sunrise over Paris. Walking along the Seine River, make your way to the Pont de Bir Hakeim, formerly known as Pont de Passy. This bridge across the Seine has an amazing view of the sunrise over the Eiffel Tower.
Enjoy the tranquil morning ambiance as the first rays of sunlight illuminate the city. Take your time to capture stunning photos and savor the breathtaking panoramic views.

Trocadéro Gardens
After experiencing the beauty of the sunrise, cross over to the Trocadéro Gardens, located just across from the Eiffel Tower. These gardens offer one of the best vantage points to admire the iconic landmark. Take a leisurely stroll through the gardens, appreciate the fountains, and enjoy the magnificent view of the Eiffel Tower from a distance.
Arc de Triomphe
From the Trocadéro Gardens, make your way north towards the Arc de Triomphe. As you walk along the charming streets, take in the elegant Parisian architecture and the bustling atmosphere. Reach the majestic Arc de Triomphe, an iconic monument honoring French military victories. Take your time to admire the intricate details of the arch and ascend to the terrace for a stunning view of the surrounding cityscape, including the Champs-Élysées.
Champs-Élysées:
After exploring the Arc de Triomphe, continue along the famous Champs-Élysées. This grand avenue is lined with luxury shops, cafes, theaters, and beautiful tree-lined sidewalks. Take a leisurely walk along the boulevard, soak up the lively atmosphere, and indulge in some shopping or people-watching. Place de la Concorde:
As you reach the end of the Champs-Élysées, you’ll arrive at the Place de la Concorde. Admire the historic Obelisk of Luxor, explore the beautifully manicured gardens, and take in the grandeur of this iconic square. From here, you can also catch a glimpse of the Louvre Museum in the distance.
