Exploring Dunsborough and the surrounding towns has been an exciting start to our world adventures. We have packed in one wedding, two birthdays, and countless beaches and sunsets.
Getting to spend time with the bride and groom before, during, and after the wedding has been one of our highlights. We rode with Ashton and Kieran all the way down from Perth, spent time with their family and friends in the days before, and had a recovery brunch at their home the day after the wedding.
The wedding itself was so much fun, but we nearly missed it by accidentally getting on the wrong bus to the wrong wedding!
We arrived at the pickup spot and saw a bunch of people dressed for a wedding standing there too. We boarded the bus with them, and as we sat waiting for more people to arrive we noticed a commotion near the back of the bus. We overheard someone say ‘We’re on the wrong bus!’, and we laughed to ourselves, but as they were getting off Wini asked, on a whim, ‘Who’s wedding are you going to?’ The girl going by said, ‘Ashton and Kieran’s’. We looked at each other, ‘Oh my god, we’re on the wrong bus too!’
It turned out there were 3 or 4 wedding buses departing from the same stop at the same time that day!
Their wedding was a beautiful day of celebration. We danced our butts off, ate mouth-watering food, and teared up at the touching speeches and vows. We’re so glad we were able to attend and share Ashton and Kieran’s special day with them.
Both of us celebrated our birthdays here. Wini turned 28 the day after the wedding, and we spent it at the wedding recovery brunch, and then had a beautiful beach day with some friends from the wedding, and then finished off with Simmos ice cream.
I turned 30 on our last day in Dunsborough. We had a nice breakfast at home, went to Injidup Natural Spa beach and walked around, made ourselves pizza for dinner, and then watched an unbelievable sunset from Canal Rocks.
We explored many beaches, but the one we loved the most was actually the closest one to our place, somewhere between Dunsborough Beach and Quindalup. We enjoyed Eagle Bay for a relaxing beach day, the Aquarium and Yallingup for snorkeling (although both FREEZING), and Sugarloaf Rocks and Canal Rocks for sunsets. We also visited Australia’s tallest lighthouse, Cape Leeuwin, and had a fun day window shopping in Margaret River.
We finished off our time with Jodie, Ashton’s mom. She was an absolute legend and helped us drop off our rental car, and then stayed up and took us to our 1am bus to Perth. Chilling at her house, watching Season 3 of Yellowstone with no context, and looking through our pictures of the trip so far was the perfect send-off on an amazing start to our journey.
