WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE FIRA TO OIA HIKE

The hike starts in Fira near the cable car station or the old port. There are signs for the Fira-Oia trail, or you can use an app like AllTrails to navigate along the coast. Even in Fira, the hike gives you panoramic views of the caldera and the azure sea as you make your way northwards.

Towards the beginning of the hike, you will pass Skaros Rock. Skaros Rock is a prominent geological formation that stands on the edge of the caldera, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the island’s stunning landscape. It has historical significance as well, as it was once the site of a medieval fortress. You can detour at Skaros Rock to take in the views of Santorini’s beautiful coastline.

Along the way to Oia, you will pass through villages such as Firostefani and Imerovigli, which have the iconic Santorini white buildings and blue roofs. You are never too far from civilisation on this hike, so if you run out of water or need a snack, there are plenty of little cafes and vendors along the way.

Shortly before arriving in Oia, there is a short section with no walking path, where you need to walk along the side of the road for about 1 km before connecting with the path again.

As you approach Oia, the trail becomes more narrow and winding, leading you through the charming alleys and iconic blue-domed churches that Oia is famous for.
